Pap and HPV Test: If the latest Pap and HPV test results are normal, one need not get it done every year. One only has to follow certain guidelines to get the regular tests done:
- Aged 21-29: Pap test every three years.
- Aged 30-64: Pap and HPV test every five years.
- Aged 65 and above: They require doctor consultation for the continuation of tests.
- HPV infection is widespread:
Anyone who is sexually active can get affected by HPV infection. It is widespread and can occur in both males and females.
- Pregnancy with cervical cancer:
Earlier, hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy were part of cervical cancer treatment. Now with the advancement of technology and new treatment options, doctors adapt to the processes to spare the patient’s fertility so that the woman’s eggs and ovaries remain harmless.
- HPV and cervical cancer:
When the HPV virus affects the body, multiple strains of the virus causes a high risk of cervical cancer while a few do not. With a strong immunity system of the body, it clears the virus within two years, but in adverse conditions; it causes abnormal cell changes in the cervix area with no symptoms. Therefore, not every HPV virus case leads to cervical cancer.
