A Brief Overview of Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Ovarian cancer might not be that common but it’s still a malignant disease. When cancer cells crop up in the female ovaries the condition is called Ovarian Cancer. Its near to impossible to detect this form of cancer, its only in the higher stages when cancer has spread to the pelvis and starts reaching the stomach that it becomes noticeable. Until then there are no concrete symptoms for the same.

Treatment options

Now as soon as your condition is assessed and your stage is determined, your doctor will devise a special plan for recovery. This plan will include the best treatment at cancer specialist hospital in the form of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, targeted therapy and more.

Surgery-

Surgery is the direct and most common approach when it comes to ovarian cancer treatment. A tumour is surgically removed from the body along with some adjacent tissue area. A visible tumour is removed however, there are chances that a tumour can bud again, not necessarily in the same spot but somewhere else as well. The magnitude of the surgery will depend upon cancer’s threshold over the disease. You may encounter a case where a patient’s ovaries cervix, fallopian tubes, and the uterus needs to be removed. Though, if caught early, there is no need to remove the reproductive organs.

Chemotherapy-

Chemotherapy uses intense medication to kill off any rapidly growing cells in the body. This medication is either injected in the bloodstream through the abdomen or can be orally consumed like any other medication.

Radiation Therapy-

Ration therapy is a targeted therapy used to kill off any left-out traces of cancer. A machine similar to the modern X-Ray machine is put to use. These rays destroy any cancer cells in the body. This treatment is more direct, unlike chemo which affects rapidly growing cells irrespective of their nature.
